Born on August 3, 1890 in Ferlach poet was deeply connected his Carinthian home time of his life. His literary work comprises about 50 works and is regarded as the beginning of the independent Carinthian poetry. A highlight is his prisoner of war novel "People like you and me", for which he got the Great Austrian State Prize in 1935. On the occasion of his 60th birthday he was awarded the honorary citizenship by the municipality of Ferlach and the provincial capital Klagenfurt. On February 8, 1959, Friedrich Perkonig died, whose works testify to the eventful history of Carinthia and the scenic beauty of this province.
