Franz Werfel was born on September 10, 1890, the son of a rich glove manufacturer in Prague. The time of his rise, in which he was one of the founders of Expressionism in the series of the most famous personalities of this time, was the breeding ground of his ingenious work. As early as 1910, the poetry book "Der Weltfreund" was published, followed by "Wir sind" (1913) and the "Gerichtstag" (1919). In 1917 he was called to the war press headquarters in Vienna. There, his friend from Prague, Egon Erwin Kisch, introduced him to the circles of the Cafe Centrals, where he spent, for example, met Robert Musil, Egon Friedell, Albert Paris-Gütersloh and Karl Kraus. After creative years Werfel had 1938, when Hitler's troops invade in Vienna, emigrate via France and Portugal to America. There he died on 26 August 1945 from a heart attack.
